Season 22/23

Many exciting music collaborations will occur during the 22/23 season. In July 2022 soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn performed “Ich denke Dein…” with Philharmonia Orchestra/Emilia Hoving at Three Choirs Festival in Hereford, UK, and the same piece was programmed in September with Hanna Husáhr, Malmö Opera Orchestra with Patrik Ringborg conducting. Manfred Honeck has programmed “Open Mind” for three concerts at the end of October with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in the US. In November Lisa Larsson and pianist Thomas Schuback have programmed “Songs on Poems by Emily Dickinson” for their recital concert in Sundsvall.

During Spring Lisa Larsson is engaged for several concerts with music by Martinsson. The first performance takes place in Espoo with Tapiola Sinfonietta/Antonello Manacorda which marks the Finnish premiere of “Hommage an Clara”, based on Lisa Larsson’s concept with music by Clara Schumann, in Martinsson’s orchestration. In March Lisa Larsson will give the Spanish premiere of the piece together with Balearic Symphony Orchestra/Pablo Mielgo at Palma de Mallorca. Three performances in April include Hommage an Clara with Jönköping Sinfonietta/Malin Broman and two Latvian premieres with Riga Sinfonietta/Normunds Šnē at Great Guild Hall in Riga: “Infelice”, music by Felix Mendelssohn, in Martinsson’s orchestration for soprano, solo violin and strings and “Garden of Devotion” for soprano and strings. Lisa Larsson is also engaged for three performances of Martinsson’s “St. Luke Passion”. Two of them mark the world premiere of the German version of St. Luke Passion with Bach Collegium Zürich/Bernhard Hunziker at Grossmünster Kirche and the third performance takes place in Umeå stads kyrka with Jonas Östlund conducting.

The German hornist Felix Klieser premiered Martinsson’s “Soundscape – Horn Concerto” in March 2022 with Deutsche Radiophilharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern and now the co-commissioners will programme their country premieres. In March Klieser will give the Italian premiere with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi under the baton of Alondra de la Parra and in April Klieser will give the Swedish premiere with NorrlandsOperan Symphony Orchestra. In June Klieser is back in Saarbrücken with Deutsche Radiophilharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern/Petr Popelka for the premiere CD recording of Soundscape – Horn Concerto at the Berlin Classics, Edel label.

In January Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra has programmed their commissioned concert opener “Shimmering Islands” with Eugene Tzigane conducting. Another four performances of St. Luke Passion are scheduled during spring. Three of them with Staffan Liljas, Mark Levengood, Orsa kyrkokör, Canzonetta and instrumental ensemble under the direction of Kettil Skarby, to whom St. Luke Passion is dedicated in gratitude for the commendable initiative to organize the 14 choir commission of the piece in 2011. Recently he also played a central role together with Justus Grohmann during the creation of the German version of the passion. Performances will take place in Orsa and Gottsunda, Sweden. Finally another St. Luke Passion performance in Uppsala with Kajsa Palmér, Anders Andersson, Missionskyrkans Vokalensemble, kyrkokör and ensemble under the baton of Markus Jonsson. This performance will be staged by director Gunnar Andersson Fisk.
